MATERIAL TYPE

Steel vs. Aluminum

Editorial, lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua.

What should you choose based on the conditions?

Coastal areas / high chloride levels (e.g., 0–5 km from the sea)

Magnelis® offers better resistance to chlorides and self-sealing of the edges. Aluminum also works if it has a good anode and insulation.

Farms (ammonia, corrosive fumes)

Magnelis® offers better resistance to chlorides and self-sealing of the edges. Aluminum also works if it has a good anode and insulation.

Roofs with low load-bearing capacity (old sheet metal/ETERNIT roofs after renovation)

Magnelis® offers better resistance to chlorides and self-sealing of the edges. Aluminum also works if it has a good anode and insulation.

Areas with high snow and wind loads

Magnelis®/steel – greater rigidity → fewer supports, shorter brackets, simpler structural design.

Projects requiring quick installation and a high degree of flexibility on a complex roof

Aluminum – easy to cut to size and adjust on site, extensive range of accessories

Decision-Making Guidelines for the 1 MW Project

  • Start by assessing the roof's load-bearing capacity and environmental conditions (marine, industrial, high levels of pollution). If the roof's load-bearing capacity is limited → aluminum is the preferred choice.
  • If the roof or surrounding area is a high-corrosion-risk environment and you want lower material CAPEX → Magnelis, but you should factor in the additional ballast and installation costs.
  • If you want quick installation, minimal roof load, and a well-documented, modular solution → aluminum
  • If the project is in a corrosive environment or the material budget is tight and you’re willing to accept a higher weight/assembly cost → Magnelis is a very reliable and cost-effective solution.

In summary

Aluminum – lighter, suitable for roofs with lower load-bearing capacity, more versatile than magnelis; due to its versatility, it is available “off the shelf” from our warehouse
